We’ve recently gotten our hands on Dishing It Up Disney Style: A Cookbook for Families with Type 1 Diabetes, from the same collaboration that produces this website. I love this cookbook! Kaitlyn and I have read through it and tried several of the recipes. We have nothing but good to say!

These are the things we love about it:

  1. The Nutrition Information. Every recipe has the nutrition facts listed, including total carbohydrates per serving and serving size. It is clear to read and easy to find. It also has tips on which recipes are gluten-free or how to prepare without gluten.
  2. Kids’ Helping Tips. Every recipe has a tip on how the little ones can help. Kaitlyn loves to be in the kitchen, so when she saw the ideas for what she could do to help prepare the recipe, she was super excited!
  3. The Disney Touch. What could be more fun for a little princess than cooking with mom in the kitchen? Making a recipe called Cinderella’s Dream-Come-True Coffee Cake or Rapunzel’s Chicken and Biscuit Pie! We love the names of the recipes and the cute pictures to go along with them. Kaitlyn even wanted to dress up in a princess outfit while she helped!
  4. The Tasty Recipes. All the recipes we’ve tried so far are delicious and easy to make! Be sure to try Lilo’s Summer Fruit Pizza and Alice’s Chicken Salad Tea Sandwiches.

Not only is this cookbook beautifully done, it’s fun, kid-friendly, and informational. I think every family with a child with type 1 diabetes will enjoy it. Best of all, you can ask for your own copy free from your healthcare provider!
